At Suffolk County Council, we support employees who are approved foster carers or are taking steps to become one, whether they foster through Suffolk County Council or another fostering organisation.
Support for foster carers
We offer additional paid leave to help colleagues balance their employment with fostering responsibilities:
- Up to 5 days' paid leave each year for approved foster carers to support their fostering or respite care responsibilities.
- Up to an additional 5 days' paid leave for employees applying to become foster carers, to attend mandatory training, home visits and fostering panels.
We also recognise that fostering responsibilities can sometimes require additional flexibility. Other options, including flexible working, annual leave and unpaid leave, may be available depending on individual circumstances and service needs.
Interested in becoming a foster carer?
You don't need to be an existing foster carer to explore the opportunities available.
If you're interested in fostering, you can find out more about the process, eligibility requirements and support available through Suffolk County Council's fostering service.
