Message from Sarah-Jane Smedmor

Thank you for your interest in the role of Service Director - Inclusion, Education and Learning.

I joined Suffolk in July 2024 and have been inspired by the ambition, energy, and determination across the county to improve outcomes for children and young people. This is a pivotal moment for our education, inclusion, and SEND services, with national reforms, a strong leadership team, and a clear trajectory of improvement.

Over the past 18 months, we’ve stabilised services, strengthened governance, and built confidence across the system. The groundwork has been laid – performance is improving, multi-agency partnerships are stronger, and our strategies are now embedded. The next phase requires a leader who can maintain momentum, drive delivery, and influence across the system, while working closely with schools, trusts, health colleagues, and parent-carer forums to ensure high-quality, inclusive support for all children and young people.

This is a role for someone who is collaborative, resilient, and confident in complexity. You’ll have the opportunity to shape education and inclusion across Suffolk, building on real progress while bringing your own vision, energy, and leadership style to make a meaningful difference. You’ll work in a supportive, high-performing leadership environment and see the tangible impact of your work on children, young people, and families across the county.

If you are ready to step into a role with influence, visibility, and career-defining potential, I encourage you to find out more and join us in shaping the next chapter of Suffolk’s journey.

Best wishes,

Sarah-Jane Smedmor
